Medical Grade Skincare

What is Medical Grade Skincare?

Medical grade (sometimes prescription strength) skincare is the smartest way to see results and sometimes it means only elevating 1 or 2 of your products to see better results. Medical grade skincare is often also referred to as pharmaceutical grade skincare or cosmeceuticals ie. a blend of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. It is a category of specialist skincare products that are typically formulated with a higher more potent concentration of active ingredients compared to skincare products you find on the high street.

What to expect

As medical grade products are more potent, they work harder for your skin and therefore can provide both medicinal and cosmetic benefits at once.

Medical grade skincare products should only be recommended by a qualified and experienced clinician, following a thorough consultation and skin assessment due to the potency of these products. This is where I come in!

How do I get access to it?

Simply book an online consultation or an in clinic consultation or go on to the shop links below.

(In Clinic consultation also includes: A full skin analysis using our state of the art advanced OBSERV520x scanner.)

PLEASE NOTE: PRESCRIPTION ITEMS REQUIRE A CONSULTATION.

What happens?

We will talk through your skin concerns, what your goals are and what you are currently using at home.

We can then put together a Personalised Skincare Plan of medical grade products depending on your current skin state that are specific to your skin goals, needs and of course your budget. Medical Grade by no way means expensive!

This could include a cleanser, and SPF or maybe swapping your serum. It may be a case of stripping back from products to help rebuild your skins barrier if your skin is reactive and sensitive. Or adding in products to help combat acne or spot production. It could also mean just elevating some of your products to more potent prescription strength to really amplify your results.

Skincare is not a one size fits all solution. Whether you have oily, dry, combination, sensitive, hyperpigmented, lighter or darker skin, I am here to help.

For in clinic consultations - you will receive your OBSERV520x skin scan report with in 24 hours.

After your consultation, we will recommend a personalised skin plan and routine to suit YOU, your lifestyle, your skin and your skin issues.

Obagi® Tretinoin

Tretinoin cream is arguably one of the most talked-about skin care treatments available. Also known as all-trans retinoic acid, tretinoin is part of the retinoid family -- a class of synthetic and naturally occurring Vitamin A compounds and derivatives.

Compared to its cosmetic relatives such as retinol, retinaldehyde and retinyl esters, tretinoin is the most potent.

Tretinoin was originally developed as an acne treatment in the 1960s. But while researchers were studying its powers to resolve breakouts, they noticed that patients who used it were experiencing an unexpected bonus: an improvement in the appearance of photoaged skin, such as fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin texture.

What does Tretinoin do for your skin?

The exact mechanism of action is unknown. However, it is known that tretinoin encourages rapid epidermal turnover, meaning skin releases dead cells faster than it otherwise would, to reveal a fresh, glowing complexion.

Under the microscope, researchers have seen tretinoin produce significant changes in epidermal and dermal skin cells and tissues. Users often see an improvement in their acne, and with the tretinoins approved for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation and roughness, users see an improvement in these signs of photoaging.

Does Tretinoin help with Acne?

Prescription tretinoin gel and cream are clinically proven to improve breakout symptoms and prevent the development of acne.

What is the difference between retinol and tretinoin?

Retinol is a weaker version of tretinoin, a prescription vitamin A derivative that is highly effective in reversing sun damage and signs of aging. Tretinoin decreases fine lines, evens skin colour, improves texture, tightens pores, and stimulates blood flow and collagen production. However, some people cannot tolerate tretinoin because it can be highly irritating and drying for their skin type. Retinol is milder; while the results may not be as dramatic, more people tolerate it well. This is why a consultation is important so we can choose the right option for you and your lifestyle, skin type and routine. Ongoing input and monitoring of results will allow us to adapt and change your strength of retinol or tretinoin as ypur skin progresses.

Like tretinoin, retinol encourages skin cell turnover; this new skin is delicate and should not be exposed to the sun. That is why these ingredients should only be found in products intended for night use.
